Fletcher eager for Advocaat to remain at Sunderland helm

Sunderland striker Steven Fletcher wants manager Dick Advocaat to remain in the job after leading the club to Premier League safety on Wednesday night.

The goalless draw against Arsenal at the Emirates meant that the Black Cats would stay in the English top flight for one more season and Scottish striker Fletcher wants that campaign be under the guidance of the experienced Dutchman.

"It would be nice if he stayed on but I think he has already made up his mind that he's not going to take it," said Fletcher said. "It would be brilliant for us if he did stay because the job he has done here has been fantastic.

"He has only been here for a couple of months but you could see at the end what it meant to him. He's a very passionate man. We see it in training every day. He has been good with the players.

"It has been a remarkable turnaround since Dick came in. He has his style of play that he put across straight away and it has reflected in the points we've put on the board.

"We'll try our best to make him change his mind. He has warmed to all the players but it's down to the board to see if they can keep him."
