As he prepares for his 49th cap tonight against Lithuania, he knows there are doubters who question why the man who dominates games for United has been unable to grab a match by the scruff of the neck while wearing dark blue.
"There's no doubt that there's a situation just now where I'm playing better for United than I am for Scotland and that's something I want to put right," he said.
"The expectations of me are high, but not so high that they're not reachable. Maybe because they see my performances in a United shirt they expect the same with Scotland, but it's a different situation with different players. It's achievable, though."
