Fletcher confident of Man Utd role

New Scotland captain Darren Fletcher believes tonight's friendly against South Africa will be good for his Manchester United career.

Fletcher has played just 22 minutes for Manchester United this term, as the Old Trafford have club suffered an horrendous start to the campaign, and he said: "I've not had many minutes under my belt this season and I see this game as a chance to hopefully get 90 minutes.

"It would be good for me, Manchester United and Scotland."

Despite being used sparingly by Sir Alex Ferguson so far, Fletcher is confident he will be able to force his way into the manager's plans.

"I wouldn't be there if I didn't think that," he said. "I've got belief in myself, the manager has belief in me and my team-mates have belief in me.

"It's going to be a long hard season and there will be plenty of games coming up when the Champions League starts. That's when I've got to take my chance and grasp it with two hands.

"It's happened in previous seasons where I've not started the season and through time I've been given my chance and managed to work my way into the team. Hopefully I can do that again."
