It was Real's fifth defeat in eight preseason friendly games, but Schuster insists: "We're in preseason and these things can happen. If we worry about winning summer tournaments, then we're setting ourselves up for failure. Building a team takes time and you need to polish certain areas. What happens in the Liga is all that matters."

However, Schuster did add: "The lack of goals is a concern. But we have Ruud van Nistelrooy back again. The worst thing would be if we weren't creating chances."

On the performances of new signings Wesley Sneijder and Royston Drenthe, he said: "They are still young and it was important to play them so they could get used to their teammates.

"I don't believe the squad is closed. More players could arrive to cover our deficiencies."
