Fit-again Matthews thrilled to be back in Celtic side

Adam Matthews is delighted to be back in Celtic's starting eleven despite being involved in a disappointing 2-1 Scottish Cup loss to Aberdeen on Saturday.

The Welsh full-back sustained a calf injury during the midseason training camp in Turkey which kept him out of action until the weekend.

That leg issue came after a shoulder injury sidelined him for part of the first half of the season and he admitted it felt good to return to the Hoops' starting line-up as he targets an injury-free final four months of the campaign.

"It's been a bad season for me with injuries, so hopefully I can now put them behind me and get a good run of games now," he told Celtic View.

"The calf is feeling good now, the shoulder is feeling good, so hopefully I can keep training hard, get fit and help the team.

"I think it was my last sprint back before I was coming off, and I felt a twinge in my calf. I didn't think anything of it, but went for a scan when I came home, and it was a Grade 2 strain.

"Obviously it was bad timing, especially getting injured in a friendly, but hopefully I can put that behind me.

"It is frustrating. It took me a while to get back to where I wanted to be and I felt with the run of games I was getting, that I was getting close to it. It was bad timing, so starting again, getting fit again hasn't helped, but you get that in football so hopefully I can stay injury-free for the rest of the season."
