The first time I saw Gerrard I thought he was waxwork! - Liverpool's Sterling

Liverpool youngster Raheem Sterling admits he was not sure if Steven Gerrard was real the first time he met him.

Sterling arrived at the club as a 15-year old from QPR's academy and suggests he was unsure if Gerrard was made of wax or if he was an actual human begin when he first encountered the Anfield great.

In a 'Day In The Life' feature in the Sunday Times Magazine, Sterling said of Gerrard: "I was 15 when I signed to Liverpool's youth team, and I have to admit I was star-struck.

"The first time I saw Stevie I thought he was a fake! I couldn't believe he was real and not a waxwork."

Sterling also recalled his debut which came in 2012 against Wigan Athletic making him the second youngest to debut in Liverpool history.

"My debut came when I was 17, against Wigan. I was first out on the pitch and I couldn't wait to get on the ball," he added.

"I did four stepovers and a half-cross, half-shot, and every time I got on the ball I ran at the defenders. It was a good day for me."
