First Man Utd game for Mourinho against Wigan

Jose Mourinho's first game in charge of Manchester United will take place against Wigan Athletic on Saturday week.

The Red Devils have announced that they will meet the Championship side in a pre-season friendly at the DW Stadium on July 16.

Regarding the opening match, as well as the overall pre-season plans, Mourinho told MUTV: "The first game against Wigan is very important as I am going to have some players I don't know very well who I am bringing into the first team.

"I don't know them well but I just trust Nicky Butt [Head of Academy] and John Murtough [Head of Football Development] and the youth structure's judgement.

"Obviously I am going to work closely with them and I'm going to have to trust them when they say we have a few players who, in a couple of years, can be first-team players. It's important to know them and give them the opportunity to work."

The Wigan fixture will precede United's pre-season tour of China which will take in a clash wth German giants Borussia Dortmund in Shanghai on July 22, before the Manchester derby with Manchester City in Beijing on July 25.

Also on the summer agenda for United is a trip to Sweden to meet Turkish powerhouse Galatasaray in Gothenburg on July 30 before Wayne Rooney's testimonial match against Everton at Old Trafford on August 3.
