Fiorentina's Mutu pens open letter to Chelsea owner Abramovich
Fiorentina striker Adrian Mutu has issued an open letter to Chelsea over their massive compo demand.
“I cannot pay such a sum and no person in my condition realistically could,” said the Fiorentina striker in a statement released to news agency ANSA.
“It is not an issue of intention so much as the comprehension of a rational and natural principle of inability.
“I am sorry for what happened when I was at Chelsea and I have carried that disappointment within me for years.”
Mutu was ordered to pay compensation after failing a drugs test while at Stamford Bridge in 2004 and could even be banned from football if he does not resolve the debt.
“I think that the best way to define this issue, with the reciprocal satisfaction of all parties, would be this: I pledge to make a significant donation to a charity on Florence or another Italian city that works to help youngsters who have been affected by drugs and an identical donation to a charity chosen by Chelsea and another in my country of Romania.
“I absolutely no not wish to do ‘mere charity’ as much as prove along with Chelsea that our world is able to remember the real international and social importance of sport.
“That football is able to overcome its conflicts to contribute to the suffering of young people who have made mistakes, sometimes encouraged by bad examples set by various elements of society, including the world of sport.
“I want to show these young people they should not be destroyed, but recovered with the real values of life.”

Man....your an idiot....Mutu made a mistake, which doesn't justify anything, but Chelsea terminated his contract. Mutu asked for a transfer and the club terminated him. They didn't want to help their player who was obviously having problems. Fifa banned Mutu and fined him. He served his ban and paid his fine. Mutu signed as free agent to Juve and moved on with his life. Juve then sold him for 9million to Fiorentina. Mutu has the right to work and served his sentence. Chelsea deserves the salary Mutu made during his time there only not the transfer fee. A lifetime ban is inhumane....if I'm not mistaken Maradona was drug addict and coaches a National Team ....or and Ferdinand was taking steroids...a performance enhancer.....dont't talk about something you know nothing about...
What a twat he will basically pay it into a charity and the extract it back out!
romania and italy i could fiddle those systems so don't do it chelsea
Get all the money and distribute it to a charity yourself.
Mutu is such a weasle I embrassed for him what a tw@t
Oh dear. What Mutu did at Chelsea was unforgivable. He had everything. A great club, respected by the fans as a favourite, Huge status and may have become CULT status given time.. and then he decided to replace the L in cult with an N.
I go some way in thinking Juventus should be made to pay towards this as they got MUTU for Free at Chelsea's expense... but I also blame FIFA for not banning MUTU for life, if not for at least 5 years. More than enough time to reflect on his appalling behaviour. Roman may be rich but why the hell should he write off £16m that he paid for MUTU? Everyone is forgetting it is not only the original fee Chelsea paid. It is the wages he accumulated during his short stay too. He defaulted on his contract, and, I'm sorry, but that is life. The money has to come from somewhere and the buck stops with MUTU.
At least he has now apologised but that is a token gesture to get off the fine. He has not had the decency to approach Abramovic personally though. An open letter is simply not good enough is it?
