Fiorentina striker Alberto Gilardino admits the team lacked experience in the UEFA Champions League.
"We did show a lack of experience. It was the first time in the Champions League for many of us, so running into a few difficulties was only to be expected," he said after the 2-1 loss to Lyon.
"The fans wanted an excellent Champions League campaign and we tried, but did not manage it, so now we must focus on getting that UEFA Cup slot," he added.
"We need our supporters both to continue this European adventure and in Serie A. It's not over yet, as there is a very tough game to play in Bucharest and we have to get a result there to reach the UEFA Cup."
If the Violas can manage a point against Steaua Bucharest they will qualify for the UEFA Cup.
