Fiorentina sports chief Pantaleo Corvino is moving for Inter Milan defender Nicolas Burdisso.
The Argentina international is seen by Corvino as an alternative to Alex Silva, with negotiations proving difficult with Sao Paulo.
Fiorentina are now ready to offer cash plus fullback Manuel da Costa - a favourite of Inter coach Jose Mourinho - in exchange for Burdisso.
