Fiorentina striker Gilardino: Italy must do better

Fiorentina striker Alberto Gilardino concedes Italy must do better after their 1-1 draw with Paraguay in their World Cup opener.

Gilardino concedes Italy were not as dangerous as they should've been, but shares the blame with the whole team.

"Clearly we all need to step up a bit, not just the forwards. We are Italy and deserved to win. It's just a shame we didn't get all three points."

The 1-1 draw with Paraguay saw the Azzurri dominate in terms of possession, but were largely toothless up front.

"It was a game we prepared with these tactics for many weeks and I think we played very well - intense, determined, with good possession," continued Gila.

"We should've created more in the final third, but still got the point with Daniele De Rossi's fine goal. It's a precious point.

"We knew that Paraguay were tough and prepared for this with Claudio Marchisio as the trequartista, Simone Pepe wide right and Vincenzo Iaquinta on the left.

"Paraguay never really troubled us other than that goal from a dead ball situation, so I think we have everything we need to do well going on in the tournament."
