Fiorentina's Montella: Signing Salah from Chelsea is a 'coup'

Fiorentina boss Vincenzo Montella is already liking what he has seen from loan signing Mohamed Salah.

The Italian outfit snared the Egyptian winger from Chelsea on deadline day in an exchange deal which saw Juan Cuadrado move to west London for around £27million.

Some say that the Blues were able to offload some dead wood following a tough start to Stamford Bridge life for Salah but Montella is convinced he has a fine player on his hands as evidenced by his goal and assist in La viola's 3-1 win over Sassuolo on the weekend.

"Well, I think we pulled off a bit of coup ourselves in signing Salah," Montella said as Fiorentina get set to take on Tottenham in the Europa League at White Hart Lane tomorrow.

"Joking aside, it is almost a side of professional pride that someone wanted to pay so much for Cuadrado and that he developed so much as a player.

"He certainly wasn't at that level when he first arrived to play for us, so I think us, the management, the players are very proud about how far he has been able to go with our help.

"But we haven't just replaced him with one player, we have replaced him with several players.

"Salah is a very good player, he is used to playing at this level and although he has only been with us a short while, he has already shown very quickly that he is certainly up to playing very well in Italy and playing well for us."
