Fiorentina have joined the race for Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre.

Fiorentina want to sign a new left-sided defender and are turning to Silvestre as talks drag on over Catania wing-back Juan Vargas.

Laurent Blanc's Bordeaux have also been in contact with Silvestre's minders about a return to France this summer and have tabled a four-year contract offer.
