Fiorentina patron Diego Dalla Valle wants to halve all player wages as a show of support to fans.

"The time has come to send a strong signal and directors ought to push for it," said the Viola chief.

"Players should lead the way with a message by reducing their wages by 50 per cent. They earn so much that I'm convinced if you halved their pay, they would still be happy.

"Football is not a world of aliens set apart from the many lads who struggle to stretch their pay packets to the end of the month and yet still come to the stadium.

"This is why we should all cut back out of respect for the current economic situation and let people know this sport is close to those who are hard hit."
