Fiorentina overcome depleted Atalanta

Fiorentina overcame the midweek Champions League disappointment and a depleted Atalanta to win 2-1 overnight. Goals to Felipe Melo and Alberto Gilardino were enough to give the home side the points although Atalanta pulled one back with a late penalty.

After the 1-1 result with Bayern Munich all but ended Fiorentina's European journey, a visibly falt Viola side struggled at times to find inspiration.

Cesare Prandelli acknowledged the tough week: "If the team wants to go far then it must prove that it can deal with this pressure and remember in a week the whole situation can be overturned.

"We want to improve. We're on the right track and will play every game right to the end."
