Fiorentina new boy Aquilani: Liverpool always asked too much for me

Alberto Aquilani has revealed that Liverpool continually asked for too much money for his services during his time on Merseyside.

The Italian midfielder recently completed a transfer from the Reds to Fiorentina after three years at Anfield and he has admitted that it was hard to get a move away during his spell as the English club always wanted way too much after paying AS Roma £20million for him in the summer of 2009.

"Did I feel unwanted? I think you all know how things went for me," said Aquilani, who had loan spells with AC Milan and Juventus during his Liverpool stay.

"I would have stayed at Milan if I had played 25 games. After my 22nd appearance, I was told that I would not play any more games.

"I appreciate their honesty. They explained to me that it was due to economic issues, and they preferred not to spend that money.

"Even the year before, I had a very high asking price; one that Juventus chose not to exercise.

"The market has changed and Liverpool always asked too much money for me."
