Fiorentina midfielder Alberto Aquilani has defended his career.
Aquilani had been expected to achieve great things, but never quite lived up to his potential.
"It's easy to say that, but there were injuries, strange contracts and Coaches who came and went. I think it's a little superficial to say I never lived up to my potential, but I accept it. I am still young and have much to give.
"Of course when I was an adolescent the plan was to see out my career at Roma, being a Romanista at heart. Things went differently, but I am happy with the choices I made, especially as at the time they were forced upon me.
"If Roma had won the Coppa Italia Final, then we'd be here talking about players making history for the club. In my view the mentality has to change, though it's not easy and I don't know what's happening in there. Roma is a complex place to work.
"As for Milan, everyone was convinced I'd stay there. With seven games left in the season, Adriano Galliani made it very simple for me: he wanted to save money and therefore would not sign me outright. I'm happy to be at Fiorentina, so that's all in the past."
