Fiorentina have moved to beat Swansea City for Montpellier wing-back Benjamin Stambouli.

Both clubs are understood to have offered €5 million for the Frenchman.

"All I can tell you is that an official fax arrived from Fiorentina asking for the player," Montpellier coach Roland Courbis revealed.

"This is why I didn't call him up, as if he's thinking of other matters, he cannot concentrate on his football.

"It is a delicate time, but this is now the moment that either Fiorentina or Swansea need to reach an agreement for him."
