Fiorentina supporters have struck a formal link with a Liverpool supporters group.

The Collettivo Autonomo Viola made the offer of twinning and the Merseyside Branch of the Liverpool Supporters Club accepted.

The Stadio Artemio Franchi area will host a special 'fan zone' ahead of Tuesday's Champions League match, which is set to include a performance from the world famous flag throwers.

"The Viola are very keen to chat to Liverpool fans so don't be shy and come along and say hello," said Dave Murphy of the LFC OSC Merseyside Branch on the official Liverpool website.

"It all came about when the group of Fiorentina fans known as the Collettivo Autonomo Viola e-mailed our branch asking us to twin with them.

"They said, 'Florence has always had a strong admiration for your team and your fans, this is our opportunity to create a beginning of a friendship that will last and grow stronger over time.

"It promises to be a great occasion, so if you are travelling to the game be sure to come along and meet some of our new friends."
