Fiorentina have confirmed coach Cesare Prandelli is in talks about taking the Italy job.

Prandelli is favourite to take the post after the World Cup from Marcello Lippi.

"With reference to the reports that emerged in the newspapers today about contact between FIGC President Giancarlo Abete and Diego Della Valle," read a Viola statement.

"ACF Fiorentina point out that only yesterday did Abete ask Andrea Della Valle for permission to contact Cesare Prandelli.

"Considering the request came from the Nazionale, Andrea Della Valle gave Abete the club's permission and will accept the decisions of its Coach.

"ACF Fiorentina, in the interests of the squad and its fans, only ask that that situation be clarified as soon as possible, so we can plan our future."
