Fiorentina coach Cesare Prandelli has jumped to the defence of fullback Juan Vargas after an error-prone performance in their defeat to Champions League rivals Bayern Munich.

"Vargas was one of the most important buys made by the club this summer," assured Prandelli.

"An occasional negative performance cannot detract from his worth. It is just a moment of difficulty for him, but we will do everything we can to get him back on track.

"Don't forget when Michel Platini first arrived at Juventus he had problems too, but he found in his teammates the crucial support to get over that initial setback," revealed the former Juventus player.
