Fiorentina are chasing Atalanta midfielder Tiberio Guarente.
Viola sports chief Pantaleo Corvino see the 24 year-old as a direct replacement for new Juventus signing Felipe Melo.
However, Atalanta are reluctant to sell and their sports director Carlo Osti warned: "We haven't heard from Fiorentina and do not want to sell.
"Guarente is a key part of our plans this season."
