Steve Finnan has revealed this preseason at Liverpool has been less physical.
"I don't think pre-season has been as hard as the last few years, perhaps that will help us get a better start," the 31-year-old, who signed a new two-year deal last week, told liverpoolfc.tv.
"We can't be so far behind after just a couple of months like we have been in the past. We've done a bit of travelling, obviously going out to Asia, and hopefully the fitness we've gained and temperatures we've played in will help us.
"We've got big games coming up, starting next week at Aston Villa, but I think we are ready."
Finnan also admitted excitement was growing in the Liverpool camp ahead of the big kick off.
"The buzz will be there looking forward to the first game. There's an anticipation because you've waited so long during pre-season. The games can't come quick enough."
