FIGC president Carlo Tavecchio: Too many foreigners

FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio says there's too many foreigners in Italian football.

Tavecchio believes local youth are being held back.

"In our country the sales of mineral water have plunged by 30 per cent," he said, as reported by La Repubblica.

"People are drinking from the tap and it's the same with us in football. We no longer drink mineral water, but water from the tap.

"Our transfer market sees many swaps with no real economic movement.

"That's what marks the ability of our agents. Bringing home a horse from San Siro is better than a local donkey.

"The prevalence of foreigners has been a problem for a while. I've said it many times that we have to upgrade our youth teams.

"We must evaluate whether it's the case to make the presence of home-grown players mandatory in a team. Right now there are no such obligations."
