FFA keeps Adelaide's Mullen out of ACL final

Football Federation Australia will not release Adelaide United's Daniel Mullen for the Asian Champions League final tomorrow. Mullen is currently in Saudi Arabia with the Qantas Young Socceroos for the AFC U19 Championships and despite the fact the squad has qualified for the FIFA U20 World Cup, the FFA will not allow him to return home for the second leg of the final against Gamba Oska.

Reds coach Aurelio Vidmar was displeased with the decision when he spoke to The Herald.

"We're bitterly disappointed but once again there's not much we can do about it," Vidmar said.

"They've decided that they want him (Mullen). It's disappointing for us but I thought that considering they made the semi-finals and got to the World Cup it could have been a win-win situation for both parties.

"Unfortunately it's not the case and we've got to move on.

"That's it - nothing else can be done. It would have been a great opportunity for Daniel to be part of the Asian final."
