FFA chief Lowy warns Aussie whingers

Football Federation Australia president Frank Lowy has warned Australians that they could be described as 'whingers' if they are no careful.

Following red cards to star players Tim Cahill and Harry Kewell, Australian players and fans alike have spoken out about unfair treatment during the World Cup, but with the bid to host the 2022 tournament, Lowy does not want to be seen as a nation of whingers.

''Of course I was very disappointed we were left to 10 men again, but this is the referee's task and we never complain about that,'' he said.

''We've got to accept those decisions, whingeing is not a trait we should follow. I don't believe we are whingers, but it's important we just get on with it. In the end, those are the cards you are dealt with.''

Lowy also was hoping the Socceroos were able to get through to the next phase of the competition with a win against Serbia on Thursday morning AEST as it would have a positive spin-off for the bid.

''It's always good to be in the limelight, when they [FIFA executive] see you in the big games, they give you credit,'' he added.

''Losing is never good, winning is always better. Perception-wise, if we don't go through it does make the position a little bit tougher. If that happens, I will be disappointed, but we need to take it in our stride. The main thing is we bring credit to Australia, whatever happens. That's what we did against Ghana and that's what we have to do against Serbia. I think everyone knows we got a tough draw.''
