FFA chief Buckley thrilled with Sydney's signing of Del Piero

Football Federation Australia chief executive Ben Buckley has spoken about how Sydney FC's signing of Alessandro Del Piero is great for the global image of the A-League.

The 37-year old Italian great signed a two-year deal with the Sky Blues on Wednesday and Buckley feels it is a great achievement by the club, and player agent Lou Sticca, to bring a player of his stature to help boost the game in Australia.

"I commend Sydney FC chairman Scott Barlow and his Board for having a bold vision and making it happen," said Buckley.

"Sydney FC CEO Tony Pignata and the club's adviser Lou Sticca deserve praise for their tenacity and ability to conclude the agreement.

"Undoubtedly, this signing will have an immediate impact on attendances, membership, TV ratings and corporate support for the club and the A-League.

"All clubs will benefit when Alessandro comes to town. His stature in international football is well known, but it's his desire to put back into the game and create a legacy in Australia that's so impressive.

"The arrival of Del Piero will also impact on the technical quality of A-League, which was rated as an all-time high last season. This will ensure we remain in the elite tier of the top Asian professional leagues."
