FFA boss Buckley unsure of Newcastle Jets future

Football Federation Australia CEO Ben Buckley admits he is unsure of what the future holds for embattled A-League club Newcastle Jets.

The Jets are struggling financially at present and despite a $300,000 bail out by the FFA, Buckley says things will need to change if the club is to remain afloat.

"We want Newcastle to be in the competition, but the FFA cannot bail every club all the time and we can't put the rest of the competition in jeopardy," he said. "Whether it's in Adelaide, Townsville or Newcastle, the loyalty and passion for the team has to be realised through sponsorship and support.

"We can only go so far in providing short-term assistance before it becomes a drain on the competition.

"Put it this way - we don't have an endless supply of finance."

A-League chief Lyall Gorman confirmed that talks with the Jets would continue between today.

Tomorrow we'll again pick up the ball and start to push ahead," Gorman said yesterday.

"We hope to have some solutions in the next couple of days . . . I expect there will be some sort of clarification around all of this in the next 48 hours.

"We've obviously got to get a short-term solution in place.

"I'll pick up the running on that tomorrow."
