Dutch club Feyenoord Rotterdam have claimed that Celtic charged them £200,000 to play a friendly at their De Kuip Stadium.

Feyenoord were hoping to mark the 75th anniversary of the venue by taking on the Hoops, who they beat in the 1970 European Cup, but the Scottish champions wanted the aforementioned fee to play the game.

Now the Rotterdam outfit have teed up Spanish club Real Mallorca because they only charged £20,000 according to technical director Martin van Geel.

"Celtic would have been a very nice club to play a friendly against, especially given the history between the two clubs," he said.

"However, Celtic wanted £200,000 to come to Rotterdam and Mallorca would play for just £20,000.

"In that case, we made our decision quickly.

"The game is free of charge for all season-ticket holders so we will not make any money at all.

"And when you play a team from Spain, they are all quality. It's an ideal opponent for us."
