Feyenoord chief Martin van Geel has explained blocking Tonny Vilhena's move to Southampton on Monday.
The young midfielder had hoped to join Saints on deadline day.
"It was unacceptable to us. The bid from Southampton was too low to be taken seriously," declared Van Geel.
Saints were willing to pay €3.5 million for Vilhena, while Feyenoord refused to budge from their €6 million valuation.
Villhena retains hope of Saints trying again in the summer.
