Festival of Football a positive for Sydney FC - Reddy

Last week's Festival of Football was a huge learning curb for Sydney FC according to goalkeeper Liam Reddy.

The reigning A-League champions took on English Premier League club Blackburn Rovers, Scottish giants Rangers and Greek Super League club AEK Athens in a week-long tournament run over three match days.

Sydney did not win a match (they did draw with Rangers) but new keeper Reddy was not perturbed by the results.

"I am sure the tournament will benefit us tremendously and hopefully the younger boys will take a lot out of the experience," Reddy said.

"We have a long season ahead with an extended A-League and then we go into Asia [Champions League].

"We saw the difference in intensity with these teams. It was a lot higher.

"We also saw that if you make mistakes that nine out of 10 times you will get punished against quality opposition.

"In the A-League it might happen 50 per cent of the time. That's why we have to be more switched on."

If nothing, the event gave Sydney some solid grounding for the 2010/11 domestic season where they take on last season's runners-up Melbourne Victory in their opening match at the Sydney Football Stadium this Saturday night.
