Ciro Ferrara says Juventus were wrong to sell Diego.

Ferrara worked with Diego when coach of Juve last season.

"I would not have sold him, but I do understand. Juventus chose to go back to the past and focus on the old 4-4-2 system, so it became very complicated to put him within that framework. It's kind of the opposite of what happened when I was introduced," he said.

"Time has proved beyond doubt that it was not all my fault or his, as Diego's difficulties were simply those of everyone. Unfortunately, the winning era has finished.

"The side that would triumph in Italy and Europe is in the past now and a reconstruction process could take some time.

"It requires understanding and settling into this new 'normality' that is not in the Juventus style. There must also be a focus on the mentality."
