Fernando: I can offer Man City something new

Manchester City midfielder Fernando has no doubt he can be a key player for manager Manuel Pellegrini's team.

The man nicknamed 'Octopus', mainly for his tackling display against City's rivals Manchester United playing for Porto in 2009, believes he can add some much needed defensive steel.

He said: "Manchester City are already a very attacking team with great players, attacking players.

"But given that I have a very strong defensive game, that is going to help us a lot because obviously teams will take advantage of City being so attacking, on the counter-attack.

"I'm going to add very good value in that sense.

"The nickname is something the Porto fans gave to me because I used to steal the ball quite a lot from other players, it was as if I had a lot of legs!

"There are some great players here. But every day that goes on I have to work hard in order to get my spot. I know my strengths and will work hard to make sure I'm first choice."
