Ferguson told me he would retire, I told him I wanted Chelsea - Mourinho

Jose Mourinho has revealed that he and Sir Alex Ferguson confided in each other when making important career decisions earlier this year.

At the end of last season, Scottish great Ferguson retired after 26 years as manager of Manchester United whilst Mourinho opted to leave Real Madrid to return to Chelsea and the Portuguese tactician said the pair shared views on each of the historic moves.

"In the same way he told me he was going to retire and I kept secret on that, I also told him I was coming in this direction," said Mourinho.

"Not definitely, because I couldn't say that. It was not done and I had a contract with Madrid and I had to be free of that. But at the same time he knew I wanted to come to Chelsea.

"He thought this big decision [to retire] he could share with me, the same way I told him that I was on my way to Chelsea. We kept that (secret). We trust each other."
