Ferguson tells Liverpool, Chelsea: World wanted Man Utd v Barca final

Sir Alex Ferguson has dismissed Chelsea and Liverpool's Champions League ambitions, insisting the world wanted to see Manchester United and Barcelona play off in the final.

United take on Barca in the Nou Camp tonight in the first leg of their semi.

But boss Ferguson said: "I think this would be the most attractive final."

The Scot reckons the match-up in Spain is the climax the football world would have wanted in Moscow on May 21.

He also claimed whoever won over the two legs would go on to lift the trophy.

Fergie added: "It would have been a fantastic stage for two big clubs like ourselves and Barcelona.

"I think the winners will stand a great chance in the final."

His view was backed up by Wayne Rooney, who declared: "I'd rather play Barca in the final to be honest. They play the way we play."
