Sir Alex Ferguson admits selling Jaap Stam was one of his biggest regrets as Manchester United manager.
In 2001, Stam was sold to Lazio for a fee of £15.3million at the age of 29 after returning from injury.
Ferguson, ahead of the launch of his new autobiography, told MUTV: "When I think of disappointments, obviously Jaap Stam was always a disappointment to me, I made a bad decision there.
"There are areas you can't ignore. Why we sell certain players, like David Beckham and Ruud Van Nistelrooy These guys were big big figures in Manchester United's history."
