Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson missed their Carling Cup third-round tie against Scunthorpe at Glanford Park on Wednesday, reports BBC Sport. Ferguson skipped the game to watch Valencia, who United face in the Champions League next Wednesday.
Assistant boss Mike Phelan was listed as 'acting manager' on the team sheet for United's visit to Scunthorpe.
It is thought to be only the third game Ferguson has missed in his 24 years as manager of the Old Trafford club.
