Ferguson: Rooney has qualities to be Man Utd captain
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson was delighted to see Wayne Rooney captain England last week.
Against Brazil, Roo captained England and Fergie feels he could one day lead United.
The Scot said: "You can see the qualities that Wayne would bring to the captaincy - his determination, his hunger, his desire to do well.
"He always tries, no matter how the team is playing. He always gives 100 per cent and these are wonderful qualities for a captain.
"So there are good reasons for making him captain. But he's not in my thinking at the moment.
"He's young and I prefer older players and I prefer midfield players or a centre-back.
"I've never been a real advocate of centre-forwards being captain but Eric Cantona was a terrific captain for us."
