Sir Alex Ferguson is set to scrap plans to make Wayne Rooney captain of the club according to reports.
It is believed that Ferguson was going to bestow the honour upon Rooney at some stage but sources say the Scottish tactician is disappointed by the striker's actions in that he has been seeking the business of a £1,200-a-night prostitute.
A source said: "Sir Alex was saying he had high hopes for Rooney and would've made him captain but those plans have gone out of the window.
"He didn't think Rooney is mature enough yet and the accusations only proved his point. Sir Alex clearly cared about Wayne but he can't ignore what's happened.
"He said nothing now surprises him when it comes to what footballers get up to but he was disappointed.
"He wants the club to fine Rooney but said it could be powerless as he's not technically broken any rules."
