Ferguson just hoping Nth Qld can avoid bottom

North Queensland Fury coach Ian Ferguson admitted he is just hoping the team can avoid bottom and push themselves as far up the table as possible in the last two matches of the season.

The Fury recorded a character-building 2-1 win over the Newcastle Jets last night in their rescheduled Round 25 fixture to move within striking distance of a top-six finish but Ferguson is preferring to play down their finals chances.

''It's not so much breathing space (skipping ahead of Adelaide), we want to finish as high as we can and the worse scenario for me and the team is finishing last,'' Ferguson said.

''I don't want to put any pressure on the boys, but that probably does help towards us not finishing last ... but there's a lot of scenarios to be played.''
