Darren Ferguson is in the frame to succeed Owen Coyle at Burnley should he choose to move to Bolton Wanderers today.
The Lancashire Telegraph says the son of Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson was surprisingly sacked by Peterborough United earlier this season after two successive promotions, meaning no compensation package would be required, and he was in the stands to watch Burnley take on MK Dons in the FA Cup third round on Saturday.
A poll on a Clarets fans' website yesterday suggested that Steve Coppell would be a popular choice, with the former Reading boss gaining 38 per cent of the vote.
Among those also gaining support from fans included Nottingham Forest boss Billy Davies and former Wigan manager Paul Jewell.
