Ferguson excited about maturing Man Utd squad

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson admits he's delighted with his maturing squad.

Ferguson believes that he has a better squad now to finish off this three-pronged trophy attack than he had in 1999 when United completed the treble.

He said: "That squad of players was not nearly as strong as the one I have now. It's not just the four strikers I could change, you could change the entire team now.

"When we went to the Champions League final, Keane and Scholes were suspended, but Henning Berg was the only injury and I had to pull in a player, Greening, who had only played once or twice. He actually got a winner's medal for sitting on the bench.

"There were good internationals who weren't even involved in Madrid on Wednesday.

"That gives you an idea of the respective strength of the squads.

"I could have played a completely different team on Wednesday and I think we still would have got a result."
