Ferguson to continue as Preston slump at QPR

Preston boss Darren Ferguson intends to lead the club forward despite falling to a 3-1 defeat at QPR, their 12th league loss of the season. Ferguson said: "I believe I'm the right man. Results don't back me up at the moment, and as the manager I take responsibility for our position in the table. Do I feel under pressure? I'm not happy with the situation, put it that way.

"It was always going to be hard enough, and conceding a goal like that after only a few minutes left us with a mountain to climb.

"We said at half-time that QPR looked a bit restless even though they were 1-0 up. I felt that whoever scored the next goal would win the match.

"Then the second goal - which was a great goal by Taarabt - changed it. The last thing I wanted was for us to be chasing the game, because we knew what QPR are capable of.

"Individual errors cost us the game and that's been the story of our season. Football isn't a complicated game, and we didn't do the basics well enough."

QPR boss Neil Warnock heaped praise on Taarabt as his unbeaten side moved back to the top of the Championship table.

He said: "They were excellent goals from Taarabt and that's what he's capable of. But it wasn't just his goals - he's working hard to do the things I want him to when we don't have the ball.

"He's like a matador, the way he struts around that pitch. I'd kick him if I was playing against him.

"If you look at what he can't do you'd tear your hair out, so why not look at what he can do and then go home happy?

"He can be frustrating but if you're going to pay to watch football, who would you pay to watch? You'd pay to watch him. Look at boring England - we need people like Taarabt to entertain us.

"My young son comes just to watch him, and is copying his tricks and doing them in our living room. Even when I look at Taarabt's tricks in slow motion I don't know how he does them.

"It's great to come to Loftus Road at the moment. It's exciting. Of course we'll lose eventually, but at least we'll lose with a smile on our face."
