Ferguson confident Rooney goals will come for Man Utd

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is confident that striker Wayne Rooney will find the back of the net with regularity as the season progresses.

Rooney has scored just three times in the league this season and Ferguson is hopeful the England internationals hard work will pay off and that he will reap the rewards.

"We hope the goals are going to come for Wayne - he is working his socks off," Fergie said after the 5-0 demolition job of Birmingham City on Saturday.

"He produced some great football today and his control from Edwin van der Sar's kick for the fourth goal was fantastic."

In contrast, Rooney's striker partner Dimitar Berbatov netted a hat-trick to take his season tally to 18 but the Red Devils remain confident that Rooney will step up to the plate and help guide the club to the Premiership.
