Rangers captain Barry Ferguson has supported Alex McLeish over his move to Birmingham City.

"Alex's departure did not really surprise me at all," he said. "I knew that he always wanted to manage in the Premiership and he got his chance to join Birmingham.

"He definitely has all the attributes needed to be a success down there and this will be the first club he has been at where he will get a bit of money to spend.

"It will be interesting to see how he deals with that but I am sure he will do really well.

"I wish him all the best for the future but we now need to look forward and get a manager who can keep the national team going in the right direction."
