Ferguson and I had differences but that is normal - Man Utd captain Rooney

Wayne Rooney admits he and former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson had contrasting views on the game.

The current Red Devils captain and his old manager had a much publicised rift at Old Trafford but the now England skipper insists it is simply part and parcel of the game.

Rooney made it vehemently clear that he holds an enormous amount of respect for Ferguson, highlighting that their disparity is only normal.

"I don't know if anyone knows how things ended," said Rooney ahead of England's Euro2016 qualifier with Switzerland on Tuesday night.

"I still see Sir Alex quite a bit at games, and he travels away to European games with us. We had differences (of opinion). That's normal.

"Ask Roy (Hodgson): he's had differences with other players. That's part of football. I'm not the only person who had differences with Sir Alex Ferguson, but I can still sit here and say he was the greatest manager of all time.

"It's not that we don't like each other. We just had differences. That's normal."
