Sir Alex Ferguson spent the best part of the last four decades as a manager of football clubs in Britain.
The 71-year old Scotsman kicked off his managerial career with East Stirlingshire in 1974 before moving on to St Mirren in the same year.
Four years later he headed to Aberdeen where he led the Dons to the 1983 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup which was the first of many massive triumphs throughout his days as a gaffer.
It was his success at Pittodrie which alerted Manchester United and he was appointed in 1986 after a stint as boss of the Scotland national team.
On Wednesday, Fergie called time on his 26-year reign at Old Trafford which brought the curtain on an unprecedentedly successful career.
