Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is surprised there has been no mention of former Arsenal, Leeds United and Tottenham Hotspur manager George Graham as a potential candidate for the vacant Scotland manager's job. A whole host of names have been mentioned as potential targets for the SFA with many, including Rangers boss Walter Smith, doing their best to rule themselves out of the running.

Dundee United manager Craig Levein has emerged in recent days as the favourite for the job but Ferguson is baffled as to why Graham, who brought great success to Arsenal in the 1980s, has not been included on the list of possible appointments.

"There has been about 37 names mentioned for the Scotland job - and what I'd like to know is why George Graham wasn't included," the United boss told The Mirror.

"Maybe George hasn't got the inclination to do it because I have seen him quoted saying the right job had passed him by.

"I haven't spoken to George for a while, so I don't know what he's doing or his plans.

"But he is a really good manager. He is strong, is disciplined and just the man Scotland need."
