Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand slammed the players' attitude for their shock Champions League defeat at FC Basle.
An 89th minute goal from Michael Lang means United are still not mathematically through to the next round.
Ferdinand told BT Sport: “When you're up for the game and you get opportunities like they did in the first half, you do have to take your chances.
"At this level, you get punished. Basel, we said before the game would be confident.
"They rode the storm, came back into it in the second half and showed great experience, great character and took the game at the death there.
"Man United will be bitterly disappointed because it's an opportunity to rest players in the next game, now they've got to keep playing."
Ferdinand was surprised by United's performance.
“It's what you wouldn't really associate with a Jose Mourinho team, and that's lacking professionalism," he continued.
"I think second half they lacked that discipline, wave after wave of attack getting beyond the Manchester United midfield.
"It just wasn't good enough second half."
