Rio Ferdinand says Manchester United's current team should be regarded among the game's greatest - if they win a fourth consecutive title.

Ferdinand revealed to Inside United magazine he wants to make history by being part of the first team to win four consecutive titles.

To do that, Alex Ferguson's men will have to overcome a two-point deficit on Chelsea after crashing to a home defeat against the Blues on Saturday.

But Ferdinand, 31, believes if they manage that they should be regarded as the best English domestic team ever. He added: "Nobody's ever done it, so I think we'd have to go down as the best English team in history.

"As soon as we won the league last year the manager was urging us to go for it again - that's the gauntlet he threw down in the dressing room.

"The aim is always the same here - you want to end each season having written a new chapter in the history books."
